Nearly ten months after the first DC5 Greatest Hits collection came a second batch of hits, which generally reviewed a chart- busy 1966, adding some material from 1965 for balance. Although nowhere near as compelling as the first compilation - for this newer record contained B-sides, unlike its predecessor- this album, clocking in at just under 23 minutes, has lots to recommend. And coming as it did right before Christmas 1966, this eleventh stateside DC5 album probably found its way under many holiday trees.
Opening with one of the groups most solid efforts, April 1966's "Try Too Hard", the album then went into the follow-up single "Please Tell Me Why", from June of that year. Next came both sides of the "Reelin' And Rockin" single, beginning with the powerful b-side "I'm Thinking". Then, one of the group's personal favorites and best ballads, "Come Home" rounds out the first side.
Another ballad, August 1966's "Satisfied With You", opened up the second side, followed by February 1966's "At the Scene". Then comes another b-side, which was actually an a-side in England: "Look Before You Leap". And then two more solid b-sides: the great "All Night Long", which backed "Try Too Hard", and rounding out the album, the b-side of "Satisfied", a pure rocker: "Don't Let Me Down".
Some hits, and some great flips...although not quite like the previous hits album, this one does hold its own. Even though there was enough material for yet another Hits collection, none materialized stateside.
