From 2nd Corinthians Chapter 5: Why Christians Proclaim Their Faith

0.) Intro - Discuss the subject.
Why do we push it? It's a free country! Isn't each person free to make up "his own god?"
Do other religions push themselves? Being imperfect, do we have a right to preach?
Consider this: John 4:24 - "God is Spirit, and they who worship Him must do so in spirit & in truth."
We persuade people for their sakes, not ours. All men are free to believe whatever they want,
but must be ready to face the consequences of their choice. All other religions push themselves, in
most cases thru discrimination or force. We persuade based on love & truth. And a person doesn't
have to be perfect to give knowledge. He just has to be accurate.
1.) We Believe In Heaven (2 Cor 5: 1-8)
Because God gave us His Spirit (vs 5), we are CONFIDENT of our
heavenly future: its reality, some of its nature, & its supreme hope.
Key thoughts in verses: WE KNOW. We're Confident. Discuss heavenly life.
Psalm 17:15 - "I shall be satisfied when I aware with HIS likeness."
Psalm 116:15 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."
Psalm 16:11 - "At thy right hand are pleasures forevermore."
2.) We've Been Told to Do So (2 Cor 5: 9-10)
Because God holds us accountable, we LABOR, promoting His
kingdom, that we may please Him.
Key thoughts: We labor for rewards, not personal salvation. Discuss God's will and equip-
ment for our lives.
Matt 28: 18-20 "Go ye therefore and teach all nations, etc."
Acts 1:8 "You shall be my witnesses, here, there, and over the whole world
3.) We Believe In Hell (2 Cor 5: 11-13)
Because of God's wrath, we persuade men, despite their view of us.
Key thoughts: We have no desire to believe in hell, but we cannot deny its place, as Christ warns
us of it. Don't commit the ultimate crime: rejecting pure love & holiness (personified in Christ).
Matt 23:33 - Even religious people can't escape it if they're not true Christians.
Psalm 7:11 - God is angry with the wicked every day.
Mark 9:43-48 - Better to cut off your hand or eye, than to go there. Whatever it takes, avoid it
4.) We Know the Answer: The Cross (vs 14-16)
Because of God's love, we JUDGE (discern) the importance of the
cross, and its claim on each life.
Key thoughts: The cross and the resurrection. Provable historical events. The simple, world-
wide solution that really works. It's not the church, not good deeds, it's the cross.
1 Cor 15:3-4 - I delivered to you first of all how Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose.
Rom 5:8 - God commended His love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.
God pays for, forgives, and wipes away the Bad-in-us thru the cross, and heals, energizes, and
places Good-in-us thru the ressurection.
5.) We Are New Inside. Transformed. (vs 17-19)
Because of God's placing us "In Christ" (vs "in Adam'), we are new
creations, proclaiming holiness.
Key thoughts: We're not just reformed, fixed-up. We're made new creations. "Born Again".
We have a power to love, to be pure, to be people of character, a power previously limited.
1st John 3:5-6 - Whoever abides in Him doesn't practice a life of sin.
1st John 4:7-11 - Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, etc.
Gal 5:22 - The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faith-
fullness, humility and self-control.
6.) We Can't Help It: It's Who We Are (vs 20-21)
Because of all this, we are AMBASSADORS for Christ, begging
people to be reconciled to God.
Key thoughts: As Ambassadors, we represent HIM, not us. Do be contageous. Don't be
discouraged, or shouted down. Share Christ. It's right.
Rom 12: 2 - Don't be pressed into the image of this world, but be transformed by the re-
newing of your mind, to demonstrate God's will.
